Setting Up Your Cuckoo Clock

How to Set Up Your Cuckoo Clock

Unboxing Your Cuckoo Clock

  1. Remove the clock from its wrapping, making sure NOT to turn the clock upside down at any give time

  2. Open the back and remove the safety paper from the coil (mounted on the back plate), and pull out the 2 latches holding the bellows in place. (NOTE: at S.Demanuele we remove these safety pieces ourselves when you buy a new clock so you don't have to do it yourself)

  3. Unwrap the chains while holding the clock vertically to avoid them tangling up

  4. If your cuckoo comes with a decorative crown (deer head, bird etc), you can fasten it onto the front

Mounting Your Cuckoo Clock

  1. Insert a sturdy hanging hook at an angle in the place where you want to hang your clock

  2. Hang the clock on the hanging hook. The clock's back has to lie flat against the wall, and not tipped forward or to the side

  3. The cuckoo door may be locked with a pin or wire latch. To unlock it, you can either turn the latch or remove it completely

  4. Next step is to hang the pendulum on the pendulum rod, and then attach the weights onto the hooks

Starting Your Cuckoo Clock

  1. Start the pendulum slowly. If the clock is flat against the wall, and it is hanging straight, the ‘tick tock’ will be even when swinging from side to side

  2. If the 'tick tock' does not sound even, gently move the clock case to the left or to the right accordingly, until the sound is even.

  3. Set the time by moving the minute hand only in a clockwise direction. Allow the clock to strike every half hour fully. Some clocks have a chime-silencing lever. To set the time quicker, shut off the chime and move the minute hand clockwise to the correct time. Switch on the chime again

  4. If the clock is not striking, ensure that the chime shut-off switch is in the ON position

Please Keep In Mind...

  1. You should never set the time by moving the hour (small) hand, as this can damage the clock

  2. If you need to move the clock, always remove the pendulum and weights first before carrying the clock anywhere

  3. Everytime you pull up the weights to wind the clock, the clock might move by a few millimeters. You might not see this movement, but it can gradually lead to the cuckoo clock hanging out of balance and stopping. If this happens follow the above instructions from 'Starting Your Cuckoo Clock'
