Types of Watch Crystals

Watch Crystal Materials

Mineral Glass

A mineral watch crystal is an ordinary glass crystal that has been heat treated or chemically treated to withstand scratches.

Sapphire Glass

A sapphire crystal is clear and durable. It is scratch resistant, and has a greater ability to withstand cracks and breakage than glass or plastic.

Acrylic glass

Acrylic glass is actually a type of plastic. It is soft and pliable, but still relatively durable. While its pliability makes it difficult to break, it can still scratch very easily.

To round up, sapphire provides excellent clarity and unmatched scratch-resistance. Mineral crystals are more shatter-proof and can be treated with a scratch-protective sapphire coating.  Acrylic glass is the most resistant to shattering, but can be scratched very easily.
